Diy well head: device and installation rules

Competent arrangement of the well is impossible without the use of the necessary unit - the head. Installing a head on the well not only protects the structure from foreign objects entering it, but also greatly facilitates the operation of the well of the water supply system. Some people are of the opinion that the installation of the head is unnecessary: the wellhead can be wrapped with film or tape, and the structure can be covered with an old container. This opinion is erroneous, since the film or tape will not be able to protect the well in the event of a rise in groundwater, which can lead to the destruction of the system and water pollution.

The main functions and types of heads

A cable is attached to the head to hold the submersible pump. The pump power cable and the pressure pipe itself pass through the head.

The well head is a kind of cover that covers part of the casing

Installing a head on a well allows you to achieve several goals at once:

  • reliable hermetic isolation of the wellhead from massive snow melting and flooding;
  • protection of the water supply system from the ingress of foreign objects and surface groundwater;
  • reducing the likelihood of theft of component materials and equipment and the well of the well;
  • an increase in the debit of shallow sand wells due to the generating voltage during the operation of the pump;
  • resistance to internal freezing of the well part during the winter months;
  • protection of drinking water from precipitation, dirt, dust and debris;
  • increased reliability of pump suspension;
  • simplification of the operation of the structure as a whole.

There are several types of wellheads, which differ in the material of manufacture and the quality of the product.

The most demanded and popular among a wide mass of applicants are wellheads made of plastic, steel or cast iron. For the arrangement of shallow wells, the plastic version of the product is often used.

The material on how to properly supply water to a private house from a well will also be useful:

Arrangement and installation of a well head

The well head device is completed with: a protective cover, a plastic or metal flange, a rubber ring, fasteners and a carabiner. Two eyebolts are welded on the outside of the metal covers, and one on the inside.

The main advantages of installing the structure - the installation of the well head does not require welding. Installation of the product is carried out by tightening with bolts. They squeeze the clamping flange and the cover together, as well as an interlayer made of an O-ring rubber.

Ease of installation also lies in the possibility of submerging the pump by the eye-bolts placed on the cover of the product using lifting mechanisms (crane, winch).

You can learn how to choose a pump for a well from the material:

At the base of the eyebolt, on the inner side of the cover, a cable is fixed, which is attached to the pump with a carabiner, which greatly simplifies the operation of the water supply system

When arranging the head, first cut the casing perpendicular to the axis. The edge of the cut should be made even, stripped of burrs. The outer surface of the pipe is cleaned, primed and covered with a layer of anticorrosive paint.

After that, the pump can be connected to a plastic pipe, a cable of the required length can be attached there and the cable can be extended. The entire structure is pulled together with a clamp. The free end of the cable should be attached through the lower eyebolt of the cover to the carabiner. First, you should pass the cable and the plastic pressure pipe through the cover. With a flat surface outward, the flange and rubber ring are slid over the casing.

By lowering the submersible pump into the well, the dock cover can be installed. To do this, slightly raise the flange and rubber ring to the level of the head cover. The flange and cover are tightened together with bolts, while the rubber ring placed between them is compressed. Tightening and preventing sagging of the polyethylene pressure pipe will help the use of a collet clamp to fix it. Loose cables can be secured with cable glands.

Also, the material on the rules for installing equipment during well construction will be useful:

How to build everything yourself?

To make the head flange, 10 mm sheet metal is required. Starting from the outer size of the casing, cut a flange, the inner diameter of which should slightly exceed this size. According to the size of the flange, a plug should also be cut into which the inlet fittings for cables and pressure water pipe will be welded later.

The simple design of the product also allows you to quickly make a head for a well with your own hands.

Two eyebolts must be welded to the outer surface of the cover, which will be necessary for lowering the pump and lifting the cover when carrying out preventive measures. An eyebolt should be welded to the inner surface of the cover, which is necessary for fastening to the pump cable. The connected flange cover is bolted together. By placing a rubber ring under the flange, you can ensure high-quality sealing of the entire structure.

Well head device

The owners of their own house or summer cottage always think about high-quality and clean water. This requires a drilled well and a special head for the well. To filter the incoming water, it is enough to install filters. But the top of the well string remains unprotected. It is quite difficult to do without a borehole head with your own hands. It will reliably protect the column from getting inside various objects.

Well heads

To protect against penetration into the well dust, dirt, sand, foreign objects, amphibians and dirty water when flooded by spring waters, the upper end of the casing pipe is equipped with a cap - a plug that tightly closes its neck.

The head mounted on the pipe provides a secure suspension of the electric pump, wires and water hose.

In winter, sealing saves the well from freezing, and also, in the presence of a locking device, protects against unauthorized entry.

The most popular on the market are domes made of domestically produced Gillex and Aquarius, combining low price and required quality.

Borehole head "Dzhileks" is designed for equipment of wells with casing pipes with a diameter of 90 to 160 millimeters and pumps with PVC pipes with a diameter of 25, 32 and 40 mm. They are made of cast iron or plastic.

The head "Aquarius" is made of plastic and is intended for shallow wells with a casing diameter of 113-127 mm and a pressure pipe diameter of 32 mm.

Another manufacturer - "Aquarebot" produces headpieces made of plastic and cast iron for wells with an outer pipe diameter of 107-159 mm and a pumping pipe diameter of 32 and 40 mm.

Types of products and their design

Factory heads can be:

    Plastic - such models are well suited for shallow wells and are used with fixed equipment weighing up to 200 kg.

Head made of plastic Metal - factory structures are usually made of cast iron or steel and are capable of withstanding up to 500 kg, if you make it yourself, you can use lighter and more malleable aluminum.

Metal head

If you buy a factory head for a well for a plastic pipe or steel pipe, you can find out its main technical characteristics by marking, which looks like this:

X-X1 - the range of casing diameters for which the product is suitable,

Y - diameter of the adapter for connecting water pipes.

The letter P can be added to the standard marking after the numbers, indicating the material from which the product is made - plastic. The absence of a letter designation indicates that the head is made of metal.

Constructive device

The design of the product includes a cover, a flange for fixing it and a rubber sealing ring.

  • cable gland for electric drive
  • eyebolts for lifting and holding the submersible pump
  • fitting for connecting the water hose.

The main technical parameters are encrypted in the product labeling. For example, OS 125-32 or OSB 90-110 / 25 is a borehole head with a casing string with a radius of 125 or 90-110 mm. The numbers "25" and "32" indicate the size of the outdoor equipment that the center collet is designed to handle.

The letter "A" indicates that the model has a vandal-proof design. The letter "P" marks plastic products.

Universal heads are mounted on columns with a radius of 140 to 160 mm.
